Add your own songs
Your favorite songs are not in the library? Add them. My First Piano Pro lets you bring in any song you like, in any language: folk songs from your country, old classics, school songs, or your own tunes.
Five ways to add a song
| Way | What you do |
|---|---|
| Type notes | Type the letters of the tune, like C C G G A A G. Easiest for songs you know by heart. |
| Click the keys | Click the keys on the screen, one note at a time. |
| Step record | Press the keys of your real piano slowly. The timing does not matter; each key is the next note. |
| Record my piano | Play the song on your piano and the app writes it down. |
| Import | Bring in a MIDI file, a MusicXML file, or a PDF or photo of sheet music. The sheet-music reader works on your computer. |
Step by step
- Open Songs and press + Add song.
- Choose a way from the list above.
- Press Hear it. Fix any note that is wrong: you can change the pitch, length and hand of each note, and see the song on the staff.
- Give the song a name and press Save to My Songs.
- Find it under My songs. It plays like any other song, with falling notes, colors and stars.
Photos and scans can contain mistakes, so always listen to what the reader found and fix it before saving. If a photo was taken at an angle, use Straighten and crop → Fix perspective first.
Which music can I add?
Add music that is yours or that is in the public domain, or that you are allowed to copy for your own practice. As a rule of thumb, a song is in the public domain when its composer died a long time ago (in most countries more than 70 years ago, in some more than 100) and you are using an old original edition, not a modern arrangement. Modern editions, arrangements and recordings can still be protected. This is general information, not legal advice, so please check the rules of your country.
Where to find public-domain sheet music
- IMSLP: a huge library of old scores (it may ask you to prove you are human before a download).
- Mutopia Project: free scores, many with MIDI files.
- Wikimedia Commons: sheet music that is free to use, including folk songs and national songs.
- National libraries, such as the Biblioteca Nacional Digital (Brazil) and the Biblioteca Digital Hispánica (Spain), have old scores from your own country.
Share your songs
A saved song can be exported as a My First Piano song file, a MIDI file or MusicXML from the song’s details. You can also save a whole player to a file and load it on another computer. See Support.
